High School Programming
Length of Class: One Semester (18 Weeks)
Course Description:
This semester you are going to learn how to write computer code. We will begin with some pre-coding logic games that touch on some of the key concepts behind coding. From there, you will build your own games, simulations, and stories using Scratch - a program developed at MIT and used to introduce computer programming to students at colleges such as Harvard and Berkeley. Finally, you will jump into the real thing. You will be programming using the following languages: HTML & CSS, JavaScript, Python, and Microsoft Small Basic.
Grading:
0% Pre-test Assessments
20% Participation in Classroom Activities
80% Post-test Assessments & Projects
The following grading system will be used for project assessments:
4 - Advanced (A-range)
3 - Proficient (B-range)
2 - Partially Proficient (C-range)
1 - Not Proficient (Incomplete)
* All incomplete scores become a failing score by semester’s end.
