Length of Class: Two Semesters (36 Weeks)
Course Outline and Description:
Students in this course will study the history of the United States from the Revolutionary War through 1898, including the following areas of study:
1. Revolution and the New Nation (1754 - 1800s)
A. Road to revolution
B. The Revolutionary War
C. Creating a new nation and a new government.
2. Expansion and Reform (1792 - 1861)
A. Challenges to an emerging nation
B. Regional and economic growth
C. Reform movements
3. Civil War and Reconstruction (1850 - 1877)
A. The coming of the War
B. The Civil War
C. Reconstruction
4. The development of an industrial, urban, and global United States (1870 - 1898)
A. America in the last half of the 19th century
B. Policy issues in the United States today
Students in this class will be expected to complete homework assignments, participate in classroom discussions and simulations, and be prepared for assessments that will take place at the end of each major topic of study.
Grading:
0% Pre-test Assessments
20% Homework & Participation in Classroom Activities
80% Post-test Assessments & Projects
The following grading system will be used for project assessments:
4 - Advanced (A-range)
3 - Proficient (B-range)
2 - Partially Proficient (C-range)
1 - Not Proficient (Incomplete)
* All incomplete scores become a failing score by semester’s end.
