7th Grade Social Studies: World History and Geography
Length of Class: Two Semesters (36 Weeks)
Course Description:
Seventh-grade students will review the tools and mental constructs used by historians and geographers. They will develop an understanding of World History, Eras 1–4. Geography, Civics/Government, and Economics content is integrated throughout the year. As a capstone, the students will conduct investigations about past and present global issues. Using significant content knowledge, research, and inquiry, they will analyze the issue and propose a plan for the future. As part of the inquiry, they will compose civic, persuasive essays using reasoned argument.

- The Fertile Crescent, Mesopotamia, and the Persian Empire (7000 - 480 BC)
- Kingdoms of the Nile (4500 BC - AD 400)
- Ancient Greece (2000 - 330 BC)
- Ancient Rome (753 BC - AD 476)
- The Middle Ages (AD 500 - 1500)

80% Projects & Post-Test Assessments
The following grading system will be used on project assessments for each of the units above:
4 - Advanced (A-range)
3 - Proficient (B-range)
2 - Partially Proficient (C-range)
1 - Not Proficient (Incomplete)
* All incomplete scores become a failing score by semester’s end.
